Carling Cup goal summary – Manchester City vs Birmingham City
Manchester City played host to Birmingham City in the Carling Cup at the Etihad Stadium. Having picked up a draw this past weekend, City were looking to try and get back to their winning ways in the game and hence Birmingham were set to be in for a tough
game.

Following a solid start to the game, City cruised into the next round of the tournament; as they went on to beat Birmingham by a score of two goals to nil. The goals were scored by Hargreaves and Balotelli and seemed the game was a prime example of the depth
that the City squad now poses.
In the 17th minute, Birmingham failed to make a significant clearance and the ball fell into the feet of Hargreaves some twenty yards from goal. The former Manchester United player then picked up the ball and smacked a shot towards the goal. With
his effort having ample pace behind it, the keeper couldn’t do much to prevent Hargreaves from scoring his debut goal for the team and putting them in the lead on the night.

Following the two goals, City went ahead and hit cruise control as they dominated the game and created a number of other chances. Nonetheless, despite that fact they just couldn’t score any more goals in the game, but that didn’t affect their progress to
