Carling Cup news: Wolves win it late against Notts County as they progress to the next round (Part 2)
Since the score was one goal a piece at the full time whistle, the match was forced to head into extra time.
Almost immediately as soon as the extra time was started, Wolves pulled a goal out of nowhere. Kevin Doyle flew past the defence and pulled a ball back for Steven Fletcher, who hit a first time shot from twenty yards out to give
the home team a one goal advantage, in the first half of extra time.
Near the end of the first half of extra time it was Doyle once again who was creating problems for the away team. The player got the ball at an acute angle near the right corner of the box, but took his shot brilliantly to give
Wolves a three goals to one lead.
When the second half of extra time kicked off Notts County seemed to be like a bunch of zombies running on the pitch, the team was well aware of the fact that the match was lost and seemed to be wishing the full time whistle would
be blown almost immediately.
As the second-half of extra time progressed, it seemed like a mere formality, since neither of the teams was really looking to go the extra mile. The game was in the bag for Wolverhampton and Notts County knew, that there was no
way they could possibly get back into it.
Wolves carefree attitude seemed to get the better of them as Kevin Smith pulled a goal back, five minutes from the final whistle. The player headed the ball beautifully into the lower left corner from six yards out. The score was
now two goals to three and Notts were given a ray of hope out of nowhere.
However Notts County's ray of hope was soon turned into a dark cloud by Kevin Doyle. The forward was at it once again. The player got the ball in almost the exact same location from where he scored the first and the outcome of
his shot was almost the same again. The player struck a beautiful shot that flew past the keeper into the back of the net from an acute angle and saw the score line read, four goals to two in the hundred and twentieth minute of the match.
Following that goal, the match soon ended to both the teams delight. Wolves were happy to be taking home the win from the game, which saw them progress to the next round of matches, while Notts were just glad that the match came
to an end. The stand out performer on the night was quite easily Kevin Doyle, whose two late goals sealed the game from the home side.
