Carlisle’s heavy ground to favour Prosecco in Gen II Training Handicap Chase
Prosecco handles testing conditions very nicely, and at Carlisle where the going is heavy, he could be the answer in Gen II Training Handicap Chase on Friday, October 12, 2012.
Lucinda Russell’s charge is fresh following a gap of almost half a year. The connections decided to give him a break in late April, when he finished fifth in the Grant & Michelle Handicap Chase at Hexham. The surface was heavy that day, and Prosecco was one of the only few, who did not struggle.
The veteran was mighty impressive on his penultimate start. On Ayr’s soft surface, he found just one too strong in the Dr John Cleland Retirement Handicap Chase. Although the 4-1 chance did not trouble the winner, he beat rest of the pack with plenty of ease.
Prosecco’s career is full of impressive efforts in testing conditions, which often become an issue for many. In the hands of Peter Buchanan, the 10-year-old is expected to handle the conditions very well at Carlisle.
He is due to face half a dozen rivals in today’s contest. The participants will have to be on top of their stamina, because it will not be easy to travel two miles on a soft ground. The class 3 event will be kicked off at 16:30 GMT. A cash prize of 5,653 pounds is reserved for the victor.
Tito Bustillo has lacked fluency, and was quite disappointing on both starts over fences. On the other hand, Bocciani is versatile performer, who ran brilliantly over 2m7½f on Sunday. In a very tough competition, Brian Ellison’s 7-year-old seized the fourth place behind Lively Baron.
Fred Bojangals ran quite well at Hexham a week ago, but does not like slow surface. We expect Barbara Butterworth’s trainee to struggle here. Carrietau is a bold front-runner, who should be suited by the return to two miles. Storm Surge seems to have no chance whatsoever. The Martin Todhunter-trained ended last season in poor form, and has a moderate record when fresh.
According to our calculations, Moulin De La Croix is going to produce a lot of trouble for Prosecco. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained was an easy winner 11 days ago. A 7lb penalty is a huge concern though. Thus, the bettors should stick only with Prosecco.
