Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti insists that he is not at all worried about his job at Stamford Bridge, and that he is the man who can take Chelsea out of the dump they are in right now.
Chelsea, the defending champions of the league, were dealt another severe blow on Wednesday when they suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Wolves at Molineux. It was an own goal by Jose Bosingwa just 3 minutes into the game that sunk Chelsea.
The latest defeat now means that Chelsea have won just one match from their last 9 matches. The Blues now trail league leaders Manchester United by 9 points with the Red Devils having a game in hand.
Even though Chelsea has had their worst run since 1996, Ancelotti remains confident that he can turn it around for them.
The Italian was asked the question that, in his own mind, is he really the right man for the job. The former AC Milan coach said that he knows the team inside out and he has not at all lost hope for the title yet. He added that every team goes through bad
phases and that this will pass too.
Ancelotti said, "I don't fear (for my job). I'm worried because the team isn't reaching the (desired) results. I think it's obvious we are not good enough at this moment. But the team has the skill, the ability, the character, the personality to move on.
It's important to stay compact, to stay together and to work hard for each other."
Ancelotti admitted that regardless of his ambition and confidence, the decision of him staying as the Chelsea manager remains out of his own hands. Although he said that he does not have a meeting scheduled with the club owner, Roman Abramovich, and he has
not been notified of any such decision. He went on to say that he would like nothing more than to carry on his job and proving to one and all that he deserves to be here and also that his team is still the same bunch of players that won last season.
Even though most of the pundits have already eliminated Chelsea as a title contender, Ancelotti remains optimistic about his team’s chances. However, he did admit that now things looked more than difficult for his team and even though he is chasing the Premier
League title, there are also other trophies on offer and his team is going for all of them.
Ancelotti said that making a comeback in the league has a lot to do with results elsewhere going your way. But for other competitions like FA Cup, Carlin Cup and the Champions' League, it is up to his team to get the results and keep moving forward. The
former Champions League winning manager with AC Milan said that Chelsea has never won Europe’s biggest honour and he would love to be the man who takes them to that final frontier.
Ancelotti went on to say that his team is full of players who play with their hearts on their sleeves, and he has the backing of every single one of them. He added that he enjoys a great relationship with his players and that is a significant fact which
would go in his favour as he tries to get his team back on track.
The next couple of games would be crucial in determining if he gets to keep his job or not. But one thing is for sure; Chelsea would have to bring in a big name if the manager gets sacked, to replace someone like Ancelotti.
