Carlo Ancelotti: I'm not focused on my future
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti says he isn't focused on a new contract and isn't worried about his future at the club.
Ancelotti's current deal with the Premier League champions has 18 months left to run. Worries are emerging within media circles that another club may try and poach the manager if Chelsea doesn't tie him
down quickly.
"I have a contract with Chelsea until 2012,
I want to respect this. So we haven't started talking about a new one yet, it's not necessary.
Now is not the time. There is a long season to play. Then we will see," said the Chelsea boss.
These comments may seem like a very black and white statement to make but the longer Ancelotti goes without discussing a new deal, the more clubs will start moving in towards
the Italian.
Dangerous tactics
There is perfect sense in the way Ancelotti talks about and seems to want to approach a new contract. However, his tactics are very dangerous because there could soon be
serious questions raised over his future at the club.
When a manager puts off signing a contract until the very last moment it can suggest there are issues. Ancelotti may not want to tie himself down to another five or six
year deal with Chelsea, which is the most likely offer he'll receive.
He seems settled in West London so it cannot be a case of Ancelotti wanting to move to another club. He may just prefer a shorter deal with the club beyond 2012.
"Maybe a player would start to talk now but a coach is not like a player. The situation is different.
The coach's contract has a different weight from the contract of a player because the coach's contract is not the property of the club," he added.
Betting advice
Chelsea fans shouldn't be shuffling in their seats too aggressively. Ancelotti is in control of the best football team in England at the moment and a new contract will
come sooner or later. Back Chelsea to be successful all the time Ancelotti's in charge.
