Carlo Ancelotti: No need for new strikers at Chelsea
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has praised the quality of Premier League strikers Carlos Tevez and Fernando Torres but insisted that his team's attack will not need to be strengthened for many years to come.
On Sunday, 7 November, Torres looked his old self when he hit two goals past Ancelotti's team to earn Liverpool a 2–0 victory over the defending champions.
Torres has been rumoured to be leaving Roy Hodgson's team, and Chelsea has often been cited as his destination.
But Ancelotti, who already presides over Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka in attack, insisted that the Spaniard will not replace Drogba any time soon.
"The day Drogba cannot play and maintain this level of condition, we can think about buying another striker like Torres. But when Drogba is not able, Torres will be old," the manager told The Sun., predicting a lengthy career for the 32-year-old Ivorian.
Ancelotti added that Anelka and Drogba, who have 17 goals between them so far this season, provide all the talent he needs going forward. "When you have Drogba and Anelka, it's difficult to think about Torres."
Tevez another threat
Chelsea's only other league defeat this season came against Manchester City in September, when Tevez' solo strike earned City a 1–0 victory against the defending champions.
"It isn't just Torres who has created problems for us. Carlos Tevez is the same," Ancelotti commented, adding that his team cannot be blamed for letting the league's finest marksmen score against them. "They are fantastic strikers and sometimes it can happen,
you concede goals to these strikers."
After Manchester United's draw with City on Wednesday 10 November, Chelsea are four points clear of Sir Alex Ferguson's team in the league table.
Chelsea play their next Premier League game on Sunday, 14 November, when Sunderland visit Stamford Bridge.
