Carlo Ancelotti Praises Jeffery Bruma But Admits Defense Could Be Better
Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti was confident his side would have no trouble playing against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, especially after their 1-0 win over a very stubborn Bolton. The Italian was hopeful his side had returned to winning ways and would soon
work their way up on the English Premier League table. He couldn’t have been more wrong. The visitors were in excellent form and the hosts, not so much.
Ancelotti, along with pundits and fans, must have been surprised at the full time score which read 3-3. A draw for Villa was an excellent result, but for the Blues it meant the end of their title hopes.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838 was fouled in the Villa box. The referee evened things out soon as he awarded the visitors a penalty, from which they equalized. At the start of
the second half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 hit the back of the net to level the score. With John Terry’s injury time goal, the Blues were confident they had won, only to be disappointed when Villa new comer Clark
scored a goal because of the gaping holes in the Chelsea defense.
The Italian tactician had to make some major changes in the team’s defensive line-up. In a pre-match interview, he confirmed that he would play the 19 year old Jeffery Bruma alongside skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 in central defense because the Brazilian Alex was injured
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Branislav-Ivanovic-c7994 was serving a suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card. Considering the fact that this was Bruma’s first Premier League start, the youngster was very impressive. He not only kept up with John Terry, but covered for him a few
times as well.
Ancelotti refused to blame Bruma, who has previously started for the Blues in Cup competitions, for the holes in defense. He praised the youngster, but admitted the squad was missing the experience and quality of Alex and Ivanovic. He said while speaking
to reporters, “Defensively, we lost something, obviously. I just want to say that Bruma played very well but without Alex and Ivanovic, we lose some energy on the high balls. We conceded the second goal for this reason. The third was different because we needed
to have more attention in the box.”
