Carlo Ancelotti: Sir Alex Ferguson should not have been penalised
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson did not deserve to be punished for speaking out against referee Martin Atkinson.
The Italian believes that it is normal for coaches to vent their frustrations at match officials.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for his comments against referee Martin Atkinson after his side’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea earlier in the week. The United boss believed that
Atkinson had made a number of questionable decisions which ultimately cost the Red Devils the match.
Ferguson pointed out two incidents in particular. One was David Luiz’s second half tackle on Wayne Rooney- something Sir Alex thought deserved a sending off. The other was Chelsea’s penalty decision. United went on to lose the match 2-1, and the Scot wasted
no time in attaching all the blame to referee Martin Atkinson.
Speaking after the match, the Red Devils’ boss said, “You want a fair referee, or a strong referee anyway - and we didn't get that. I must say, when I saw who the referee was I feared it. I feared the worst.”
For his remarks, Sir Alex Ferguson has been handed a two-match ban by the FA. However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager Carlo Ancelotti believes that the punishment does not fit the crime. Ancelotti believes that Ferguson lashed out at Martin Atkinson in the heat of the
moment, but the Scot was not claiming that the referee was biased towards Chelsea.
Ancelotti said, “After the game, you have emotion about the game so, sometimes, you speak about decisions. This is normal, I think. He had an argument against the referee. But I don't want to comment on this.”
Despite the loss, Manchester United still sit at the summit of Premier League table, four points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
