Carlo Ancelotti admits it will be ‘tough’ to win the Premier League
Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s chances of retaining the Barclays Premier League crown this season are extremely slim.
The Italian manager has overseen Chelsea’s worst slump in the League for more than 15 years – a slump which has almost surely cost them the League title. The Blues have won just two of their last eleven games, leaving them stranded in fifth place in the
Premier League standings.
Yet manager Carlo Ancelotti remains optimistic. He still believes that his side can still win the league; however, he admits that it is going to be extremely difficult.
Asked whether the Blues could retain the Premier League crown this season, Ancelotti responded, “Yes, it would be fantastic. It wouldn't be easy to do that, but we can try. We needed 86 points to win it last year. This year, the team will need less. 80 points
is enough.”
Even so, finishing the season with 80 points will require a superhuman effort from the ailing English Champions. Chelsea would need to win 14 of their remaining 17 games to reach Ancelotti’s point target. The Blues manager concedes that it is going to be
very tough to do that.
At the moment, Chelsea are not even in the top four. If the Blues don’t pull themselves out of their downward spiral, they risk losing their Champions League spot as well. When asked whether Chelsea would be able to finish in the top four, the Italian said,
“I don't like to promise because I have to stick with that promise. I don't want to bet because I don't like to bet, but we have the possibility to stay in the top four. It would not be good to be out of the Champions League. For us, one of the most important
things is to stay in the first four places in the table.”
Carlo Ancelotti will have a chance to bring Chelsea’s season back on track when the Blues face Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 on Saturday.
