The Juventus midfielder has failed to show the kind of form he is famous for this season, and many questions have been raised regarding his age and fitness.
However, Pirlo has found support in form of his former manager, Carlo Ancelotti, who managed the player during his successful stint as Milan manager.
The 53-year-old, who is currently coaching Paris Saint-Germain, stated that he can’t understand the criticism on Pirlo.
Ancelotti said that players go through tough moments in their career and it’s totally natural, and Juventus need not to worry about Pirlo’s bad run of form. He added that it’s only temporary and the influential midfielder will be back to his personal best.
“Players can go through moments of difficulty and it’s not the first time that it has happened. Juventus can remain calm because you’ll soon see that he will return to his old self.”
When asked about whether the Juventus player should quit international football in order to prolong his domestic career, Carlo Ancelotti said that this won’t be the case.
Les Parisiens coach stated that the 33-year-old loves to represent Italy and it is highly unlikely that he would think about calling time on his Azzurri career.
“I don’t think that will happen at all. Andrea is very attached to the Azzurri shirt and I doubt anything has changed in that regard.”
Paris Saint-Germain’s summer arrival, Marco Verratti, has been likened to Andrea Pirlo, and Carlo Ancelotti has backed the youngster to follow in the footsteps of his countryman.
Praising the 19-year-old, the Parisiens coach said that he has been impressed by what he has seen of the former Pescara player so far.
