Carlo Ancelotti defends Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, tells Roman Abramovich to be patient
Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has spoken in defence of his successor Andre Villas-Boas, whose position at Stamford Bridge is apparently under question. The Italian boss believed the players were to blame for the poor form Chelsea were currently
experiencing, not the manager.
Ancelotti was sacked after similar circumstances and now feels the same should not happen to the young Portuguese manager. He urged everyone to be patient and not to expect miracles from the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss, who did brilliantly with the Portuguese giants.
Ancelotti said in an interview:
“Villas-Boas cannot work miracles. This is an old team now. It is exactly the same team as the one I left, with the exception of Juan Mata and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678.
The problem is not Villas-Boas, it is with the team that he has.”
According to the former AC Milan boss, the problem was with the squad, which was too old. With the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786 still forming the team, Ancelotti felt there was a need for change.
In the summer transfer window, the Blues did not bring in too many new first team players. Despite signing some youngsters, only Meireles and Mata made it as regular starters, a trend Ancelotti feels must be changed if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 wish to improve.
He revealed:
“I feel Roman (Abramovich) needs to give him time to sort it out and make his ideas work.”
The Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is extremely impatient, having sacked various managers since buying the club in 2003. Ancelotti felt if the Russian billionaire wanted to see some long term improvement, he had to give the young Portuguese manager a chance.
Ancelotti concluded:
“The problem is in the organisation and with the players - all the things that they have to change to make it better. Maybe he does lack experience. But they knew that when they appointed him. He needs time.”
With important games coming up, Villas-Boas will have to deliver results if he wishes to remain Chelsea manager for the current season. The December fixtures alone could determine his and the club’s future.
