Carlo Ancelotti demands Chelsea make strong start to every game
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has urged his players to come out fighting at the start of every game and start each match as they mean to go on by playing fast-paced football.
The demand comes after the Blues suffered their second English Premier League defeat of the season at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday, 7 November. Ancelotti’s men struggled to get a foothold in the game
in the early stages and ended up losing 2-0 after Fernando Torres scored twice for the Reds — the first goal came after just 11 minutes.
Ancelotti put the defeat down to his players’ inability to play in a flowing, fast-paced style from the outset and hopes that they can remedy this in time for the home game against Fulham on Wednesday, 10
November.
'We want to play more quickly'
The Italian told his club’s official website that while he was pleased with the improvement his side showed in the second half of the Liverpool game, playing with pace from the beginning is a vital part
of English football.
"We want to play more quickly. The speed in the game is the most important thing. If we play slowly from the back, you will find the opponent's team in the right position, as Liverpool
did.
"In the first half they played fantastic defensive play, we allowed them to play to their strengths and we played too slowly but we improved our power in the second half.
"On Sunday we started very slowly with a lot of horizontal passes, the second half was totally different but the culture in England is for teams to start very strong."
Chelsea are currently at the top of the EPL table with 25 points from 11 matches. They have won eight games and drawn one.
