Carlo Ancelotti insists Chelsea’s title bid is still alive
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is adamant that his side still have a chance to retain the Barclays Premier League crown, despite failing to win against Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Blues stumbled to their fifth draw of the season after the match at Stamford Bridge finished 3-3. The result saw Chelsea drop down to fifth place, six points behind Manchester United, who still have a game in hand over the champions.
However, Ancelotti insists that the Blues are not out of it yet. Speaking on his side’s chances of clinching the trophy this season, the Italian said, “It's not over because we are improving and I think that we can say something again this season. First,
they (Manchester United) have to win. Second, I think that the gap is not a light gap at this moment. But everything is open again. Obviously, we have to beat them here, and we can say something again about the title.”
Perhaps Ancelotti is being a little too optimistic. It is unlikely that Manchester United can remain undefeated for the rest of the season; however, it is almost impossible that all of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s other title rivals- Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City-
will drop points simultaneously to let the Blues back into the top. With Chelsea now floundering in fifth position, Ancelotti should maybe concentrate on retaining a Champions League spot.
The draw with Aston Villa puts renewed pressure on the Chelsea boss. The Blues have won only one match in their last eight attempts. This is hardly the sort of form that will take them to the summit of the Barclays Premier League table. The manager’s future
at the club has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, and the latest result is not going to help things. Ancelotti is right in saying that Chelsea are improving everyday, but perhaps it’s a little too late in the season to mount a comeback.
Chelsea face Wolverhampton http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 on 5 January. It is a must-win scenario for Ancelotti as he finds himself edging closer and closer towards the axe.
