The PSG coach was left disappointed after Les Parisiens were eliminated from Coupe de la Ligue at the hands of Saint-Etienne on Tuesday with the Ile giants losing 5-3 on penalties at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard
The cash-laden club were favourites to win the match but were denied the opportunity to advance in the competition by Christophe Galtier’s side. After getting better of the Parisiens in the previous encounter between the two sides, AS Saint-Etienne once
again showed why they are a force to reckon in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 this season.
Les Parisiens’ coach, Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his disappointment at the result and feels that losing twice from a same side in a month, is not a good sign for such an ambitious club.
While talking to reporters after the match, the 53-year-old said that it was a harsh result for the capital club in many ways and PSG didn’t deserve to lose. Paris Saint-Germain played really well on the pitch and it’s sad to be on the losing side.
"We are very disappointed because we played well, we deserved to win, but unfortunately that's not the case.”
The match was decided on the penalties and Ancelotti feels that his side’s failure to find the back of the net cost them dearly and Paris Saint-Germain should have done better. Penalty shootout is always uncertain and the coach feels that the Ile giants
were unlucky to lose in such manner.
“We weren't able to score and a penalty shootout is always a lottery.”
Despite the defeat, the Italian tactician is proud of his players’ performance. Talking about PSG’s upcoming matches, the former Milan manager said that Tuesday’s performance will give Les Parisiens a lot of confidence and it will help them to large extent.
“But we played well and that should give us confidence after our recent performances.”
Ancelotti said that Paris Saint-Germain did everything right on the pitch and the only thing that was missing was the goal. However, the coach is taking a lot of positives from Tuesday’s Coupe de la Ligue defeat and is looking forward to the upcoming games
in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
We played good football, defended well and enjoyed most of the ball. All that was missing was the goal."
