http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Carlo Ancelotti recently spoke out in defense for the players criticized for under achieving in the absence of first team regulars.
The Blues boss claimed each player their respective place in the team and that one player could not be blamed for the disappointing season.
With just one game remaining in the Premier League, the Blues look to be finishing second in the English Premier League.
They failed to win any other trophy, having been eliminated from the Carling Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League competitions.
This made the current season the London club’s worst run since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took charge of the side in 2003.
While the Italian boss has had to face criticism, some players have been accused of half hearted performances and their inability to fill in for missing first team players.
However, Ancelotti did not think the players were to blame, claiming they had their own place in the team and that they did their best.
Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters, “Every player has his character and every team has its spine. Chelsea has this spine and it's difficult to change this because there are players with a strong, strong personality, with fantastic experience.”
The Italian boss continued, “For example, (Branislav) Ivanovic is a fantastic team-worker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523 is a fantastic team-worker. Chelsea has the possibility to keep a high standard with this kind of player.”
The 27-year-old Serbian defender Ivanovic and 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder Ramires have been surprisingly very effective for the London side.
Ancelotti was confident other players could learn from Ivanovic and Ramires and work towards establishing themselves in a more permanent role in the squad.
Ancelotti said, “Maybe, with experience, they can reach the same position, the same level as Terry, as Lampard and as Drogba.”
Skipper John Terry, Vice captain Frank Lampard and striker Didier Drogba have been the club’s back bone for may season’s now.
However, they are all 30 years old or more and are expected to retire or leave soon. Ancelotti was confident other players could learn from their dedication and improve.
The Chelsea manager said, “Terry and Lampard represent the club, the shirt. It's difficult to explain but when one player feels the shirt on his body, it's better. You will have more motivation.”
