Carlo Ancelotti praises Steven Gerrard before the big match against Chelsea
As Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti prepares to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, the former AC Milan coach admits he will love to manage Steven Gerrard in the future.
Ancelotti said, “Yes, obviously he's one of the best players in the world and I'd like to manage him one time in the future. In the future, eh?"
The Blues tried to sign the dynamic midfielder during Jose Mourinho’s reign, but it remains to be seen if Ancelotti can get it done at Chelsea this time around. It seems quite difficult, for now, as the England midfielder is a
diehard Liverpool fan and it will take something special to pull him away from Anfield.
Gerrard’s good form implies that Chelsea will have to be on their very best if they want their winning run to continue. Jose Mourinho tried to sign him when he was in charge at Chelsea and did the same when he took over Real Madrid,
but all in vain.
Last night he showed why he is regarded as one of the best players in the world. Trailing 1-0 until the 75th minute of the game, Gerrard came from the bench and scored a superb hat trick against Napoli in the Europa
Cup tie. The hat trick revived memories of his performance in 2nd half against AC Milan in the Champions League final, five years ago, when Liverpool were down 3-0 in the 1st half, but still won on penalties; thanks to a sensational Liverpool
Captain.
When talking about their last encounter at Anfield, Ancelotti knows how important that win was, as it led them to their League Cup and FA Cup double. His focus is now again to win at Anfield and take the all-important 3 points.
With Arsenal and Manchester United just 5 points behind them, it is a very important match to maintain the healthy lead. On the other hand, Roy Hodgson’s side is desperate for points so that they can move up the table. It seems now, that under the new ownership
of New England Sports Ventures (NESV), the club is beginning to settle down after a string of good results.
Ancelotti is tipped to succeed Fabio Capello in 2012 when the current England coach retires, which means he will have to wait another two years for his wish of managing the English midfielder to come true.
He said, “To win there we have to do our best.”
Liverpool, following a poor start to the season, is trying to fight a much needed comeback. Now, having won three games in a row, the Liverpool manager will be a relieved man and will be hoping that this mini-revival can lift the
spirits of the team on Sunday against the reigning Premier League Champions and current leaders Chelsea. The match is going to be a tight affair and it remains to be seen who gets the upper hand.
