Carlo Ancelotti
He began his club career at Parma in 1976, spending only three years there, he was snapped up by Roma. He was also the captain of the Roma side that went on to lift the Italian Serie A title in 1983. He also helped Roma win the Italian cup on four separate occasions. Later on he made the move to join AC Milan in 1987. He ended his playing career on a high note winning the Scudetto in his departing season.
His first job as a coach came in 1995, for a Serie B team called A.C. Reggiana. Although he only spent a year with the club he got them promoted to the Serie A, after which he took the management job at Parma. After proving his worth, the bigger Italian clubs came around looking for the manager. In 1999, he signed for the Italian giants Juventus where he succeeded, Marcello Lippi.
He failed to win a single trophy with the Old Lady, but he had some of the best credentials one could ask for. He was soon signed by AC Milan in 2001. In his first season in charge he took the sinking ship of Milan and got them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in the 2001-2002 season.
He was highly criticized for his defensive style of play, which he later corrected by converting Pirlo into one of the greatest play makers the world had ever seen. He also reignited a deadly combination of Inzaghi Na Shevchenko up front. In the 2003 season he helped Milan beat Juventus in the final of the Champions League on penalties. He also won the Coppa Italia the same season for good measure. His master class was shown when he signed the fairly unknown Brazilian Kaka that season.
In the 2003-2004 season Milan won the first league title since the 1999 season. But in the following seasons which were from 2004-2006 Milan finished as runners up behind Juventus. Carlos. Carlo with his master tactics and his record signing went on to win the Champions League in the 2007 season.
Ancelotti announced that he had resigned from Milan on mutual consent on May 31st 1989, after his contract was terminated on mutual consent, with a year remaining on it. Ancelotti was snapped up by Chelsea who had gone through five managers over the span of twenty one months.
Ancelotti made an immediate impact with them, by winning the Community shield against Manchester United. He ended the season by winning the Premier League and the FA Cup in his first season as boss at Chelsea.
Chelsea have so far this season also been doing tremendously well under Ancelotti and the team seems to finally have the right man in charge ever since the departure of Jose Mourinho. If Ancelotti can actually manage to lift the Champions League trophy with the mighty Blues, he might just go down as the greatest manager in the teams history.
Ancelotti said in an interview that someday he would like to return to Italy and mange Roma. Roma is the only Italian club he would consider managing. He also said that eventually he would also like to manage the Italian national team. But Chelsea fans don’t need to worry about those statements, since after the FA Cup win he is reported to have said he would like to stay as manager for the Blues for at least another ten years or so.
