Carlo Ancelotti refuses to be drawn on Wayne Rooney transfer
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti refused to answer questions regarding the club’s intent on whether they will attempt to sign Wayne Rooney.
The player is believed to be unhappy at Old Trafford and is said to be considering a move away from Manchester United.
Ancelotti refused to confirm or deny Chelsea’s interest and the Italian suggested that the media ask the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich instead.
The Chelsea manager said, "I can't really give an answer about this. If you want to know what players Chelsea want to buy and how much money they want to spend on players you should ask Roman directly."
A number of teams are monitoring the situation at Manchester United and the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and rivals Manchester City would consider making a move for the English striker if he decides to walk away from the club. The player has previously
stated that he wants to remain in England and in the Premier League, so that will definitely have an impact on whatever path he chooses.
The 24-year-old’s deal is set to expire at the end of the season, and the club and Rooney’s agent have failed to reach an agreement over a new contract.
The relationship of Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney has also led to speculation linking the player with a move.
Rooney did not feature for Manchester United at Everton after allegations over his private life were revealed. According to Ferguson, he missed the following game with an ankle injury. In addition to his absence, Rooney contradicted his manager and did not
start on Saturday against West Brom.
Subsequently, the player has been linked with Chelsea and Ancelotti refused to comment on a possible transfer.
"He has some problem at this moment, but when a big team has top players like Rooney, they want to keep him."
But Rooney may force Manchester United’s hand if they can’t agree on a contract soon.
