Carlo Ancelotti remains realistic about Chelsea’s Premier League chances
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti insists that his team is no longer in the race for the Premier League title despite their recent 2-1 victory over leaders Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Ancelotti said, “We are too far from Manchester United. It's difficult for them to lose points in the next few games. We have to concentrate on ourselves and look not too far in the future. I cannot believe we are this far behind, but we have to be honest.”
He added, “This is where we are in the table, and United have played with more consistency than us.”
It was yet another disappointment for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men at the Bridge. The Blues came from behind to seal a memorable victory over the Red Devils, putting
a huge dent in United’s chances of lifting their 19th Premier League crown in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
As expected, the match was a hotly contested affair. The hosts started brightly, but for all their early dominance, it was United who drew first blood. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 fired the Red Devils into the lead with an unstoppable shot, giving travelling supporters
real hope that their team would finally be able to break their Stamford Bridge curse.
However, Chelsea were out to prove a point. Second half goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 ensured that the hosts continued their dominance over their Premier League rivals at the Bridge, as the match finished 2-1.
With the win, Chelsea moved to within 12 points of the Premier League leaders Manchester United, who have played a game more. However, manager Carlo Ancelotti has waved away claims that the Blues are now back in the race for the Premier League title.
On the other hand, Manchester United still have some tough fixtures remaining, including crucial encounters against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429. The Red Devils will also welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford near the end of the current season.
With the Premier League leaders facing some difficult challenges ahead, Carlo Ancelotti might just be forced to change his mind about his side’s chances of retaining their crown.
