Unfortunately, in a cup game, there is always going to be a winner and a loser regardless of the manner of victory or defeat. Such was the case in last night’s Coupe de la Ligue game between arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille.
PSG came out victors in the game played at Parc des Princes and Carlo Ancelotti was immensely satisfied to see his team play so well against a side that had already won the competition three consecutive times ahead of the game.
And, the Italian tactician was also pleased with the way Argentine midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082 performed. The youngster who was signed from Palermo last year, has been criticised a lot for disappearing in crucial games. Pastore had a woeful night out the
last time these two sides met but Ancelotti is glad to see ‘Flaco’ do well against a team that was PSG’s nemesis last season.
Praising the midfielder, Ancelotti said that Pastore did very well and has now found his confidence.
“Pastore? He was much better. He played well, he made a fantastic pass for the second goal. He has begun to improve because he has more confidence in his qualities.”
Praising the atmosphere at the Parc, Ancelotti also said that Marseille were surprised to see PSG’s intensity and aggression and said that Rod Fanni’s dismissal in the early stages of the game was not the reason behind the win.
“It was a good night because everyone knows the importance of this game. The fans saw a very good team, the desire to win. The atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic. Marseille were a little surprised at the intensity and aggressiveness that was shown.
After the marching orders, it was hard but they remained in the game.”
Following their morale-boosting win over Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain will now play AS Saint-Etienne in the quarterfinals of the Coupe de la Ligue on November 28 in a game where victory will take Ancelotti’s men one step closer to winning their first trophy
of the Qatari era.
