Carlo Ancelotti says Chelsea don't need to sign anybody in January
Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti said recently that he doesn't expect his side will feel the need to make a major signing when the European transfer window opens in January. Although there has been speculation that Chelsea might make a go for Liverpool
striker Fernando Torres, Ancelotti has made it clear that Torres is not a part of the team's plans.
"I always said that Torres is not our aim for the future because we have trust in a lot of our young players," Ancelotti told reporters. "We have fantastic strikers in Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, and we have Salomon Kalou,
fantastic young players like Daniel Sturridge and Gael Kakuta, so in this moment we don’t really need to have a striker – a fantastic striker – like Fernando Torres".
Obviously one of the key factors will the Chelsea players' ability to stay fit. Florent Malouda is expected to sit out Chelsea's upcoming Champions League match, but they will be bolstered by the return of Didier Drogba.
"Drogba will be involved tomorrow and wants to play. He wants to give support for the team," Ancelotti said. "He’s been out for three games, the team played well and won, but we have more possibilities to win when Drogba
is in the team."
Chelsea are also expecting the imminent return of midfielder Frank Lampard who's been out of the lineup with a recurring groin injury.
"If everyone stays fit, we won’t need anyone else. I think we have a fantastic squad," Ancelotti stated. "We can be competitive in all competitions with this squad. The most important thing is to avoid injury, when possible.
We have to maintain the squad with all the players fit. This is the most difficult thing to do, but we’re working hard to do this, to control the recovery of the players."
