Carlo Ancelotti to remain with Chelsea while Paul Elliott predicts former AC Milan manager to succeed with the Blues
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Carlo Ancelotti seems to have survived the inevitable axe and could very well be staying with the Blues until the end of the season. The Italian manager, who led Chelsea to their first ever double in his first season with the club, has been
unable to secure any silverware this season.
The recent exit from the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League to Premier League rivals Manchester United was expected to end Ancelotti’s reign at Stamford Bridge, but for now, his position at the club seems safe.
A source close to the club revealed that so far there have been no meetings regarding Ancelotti’s position or the possibility of replacing him. That could only mean Chelsea owner Abramovich has not yet decided to replace Ancelotti.
The club released a statement after the disappointing Champions League, a spokesperson from the London club said, “It's business as usual. The most important thing is to win all the games we can in the league and qualify for the Champions League.”
This comes as a surprise, with the Russian billionaire having previously sacked a host of managers for not being able to deliver the coveted European Cup. The list includes some world renowned managers like Jose Mourinho and Luiz Felipe Scolari.
While Ancelotti may have escaped getting sacked this season, Ron Gourlay, the Chelsea chief executive, revealed that the manager’s position was up for review at the end of the season. This suggests that there could be some changes in store for the upcoming
season.
Paul Elliott, who captained Chelsea during 1991-1994, revealed he felt that sacking Ancelotti next season would be a mistake. He felt the Italian had done a brilliant job with the team despite failing to win any silverware this season.
Elliott said while speaking to reporters, “Okay, he's picked up nothing this year, but they need to back their man. I think he's the best manager long-term. He's got the ability to manage the egos, he can manage multi-million pound players.”
Ancelotti has proved he is capable of handling the super-stars at Stamford Bridge and has managed to keep everyone on their toes. His rotation policy has created healthy competition which has noticeably improved the squad’s performance.
The English defender continued, “I'll tell you the reason I don't fear: I love the way Ancelotti handles the pressure. I think he's got tremendous confidence and, be assured, if he left Chelsea, he's only going on to better things.”
Elliot insisted Ancelotti had what it took to manage a top side like Chelsea and was skilled enough of dealing with the pressures that came with the job. The former Chelsea defender predicted Ancelotti would improve in the upcoming seasons if he was allowed
to remain with the Blues.
