Carlo Ancelotti wants Chelsea to qualify for Champions League
Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea team is surely out of contention for the Premier League title and is currently sitting in fifth place with 45 points. They are two points behind fellow Londoners, Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues started the season with a bang and looked
invincible but a defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in November changed everything. The Champions have been able to win only five of the 16 matches played since and are virtually out of the title race after a draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage last week.
Ancelotti spoke to reporters about his teams problems and future.
Ancelotti said that it is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s priority now to finish in the top four this season so that they can qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. The manager has been under a lot of pressure as the series of poor results continue. The Champions
continue to drop points even after the London giants spent 70 million pounds in the transfer market for the acquisition of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542. The Italian further said that he doesn’t want to train a team which is not in the UEFA Champions League
and that the current Blues squad will have to fight for the fourth spot.
"I don't want to train a team that is not in the Champions League as for me it is the best competition in the world. But I am an optimist and I believe my team has the quality [to finish in the top four],” the Manager said as he highlighted his point.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 had earlier mentioned that it would be disastrous for Chelsea if they were unable to qualify for the premier competition in Europe next year. Ancelotti supported Lampard’s comments and added that it would be a tough fight to snatch the berth
from Tottenham with Liverpool also having a realistic chance to qualify for the competition. The Reds have been fantastic in a revival under Kenny Dalglish and now sit in 6th place, 6 points behind Chelsea.
"This is why it is important we arrive [in the top four] of the Premier League. It will be a fight, there are five teams, maybe six teams with Liverpool, who want this," said the former AC Milan manager.
Carlo Ancelotti also defended Fernando Torres and tipped him to be hugely successful at Stamford Bridge. He said that Torres is similar to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 and the Spaniard along with the Ivorian can surely play together and there is no competition between
the two strikers whatsoever. The Italian insisted that Torres should be given time.
"He [Torres] is a striker like Didier but it is not right to say they are in competition, they are in collaboration. They have to work together to help bring the team in the best position." added the Chelsea manager.
Chelsea plays league leader, Manchester United, next in a crucial clash for both sides with Chelsea aiming for the fourth spot while United is looking to extend their lead over Arsenal.
