Carlo Ancelotti worried as Frank Lampard picks up injury during training

his training session because of a persistent calf problem.
Chelsea's medical staff is carefully assessing the extent of his injury in order to determine how long the midfielder will be out of action. This will come as terrible news for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who had just welcomed back
the influential midfielder after a long spell on the sidelines.
At this point Ancelotti cannot afford to lose Lampard again. The Blues seem to be recovering from a terrible slump, their worst in 15 years. To lose a player like Lampard could very well mean the end of their season, which would
obviously also depend on who the Blues bring in during the transfer window.
The Italian manager had a tough time during the Christmas period when most of the key players were out with injuries and suspensions, including Lampard. The 32-year-old midfielder was unavailable for over four months following
a hernia surgery and an abductor muscle injury, during which time the Blues lost their lead at the top of the table.
Chelsea are currently at fourth place in the English Premier League points table, 7 points behind league leaders Manchester United. Ancelotti said he believed his side was still in the running for the Premier League crown, even
though it had been ruled out of the title race keeping in mind their recent performances.
With the return of Lampard however, the Blues seemed to be on their way up. They scored back-to-back wins after a long time with an impressive 7-0 FA Cup third round win over Ipswich Town and then a convincing 2-0 victory over
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 in the Premier League.
Frank Lampard seemed to be at his best as he scored two goals against Ipswich Town towards the end of the match and his contribution in the fixture against Blackburn was noticeable. He dominated the midfield and performed the linking
role to perfection.
In the past few seasons, Lampard had been scoring an average of 20 goals per season. Last season he beat his personal record by scoring 27 goals. The impressive goal tally by the midfielder earned him the name Mr. Consistent. However,
with the injuries he has had this season it seems highly unlikely that Lampard will be able to maintain his average goal tally.
