Carlo Fracassoli claims 2012 Melges 24 World Championship title – Sailing Update
After a tremendous sailing display on the racing area, Italy’s Carlo Fracassoli was able to claim the title of the 2012 Melges 24 World Championship. The Italian sailor performed tremendously throughout the regatta and compiled 32 points. He participated
in 11 races, including a discard race and clinched four bullets.
The final day of the regatta started under ideal wind conditions as the breeze was gusting around the racing area on higher knots which was quite helpful for the sailors who were ambitious to grab higher ranks. The fleet had tremendous racing on the last
day of the event as the breeze supported them to finish successful racing.
The Italian team started the final day proceedings with a slow start with an 11th finish in the opening race. The second race was comparatively better finish as the Italian team crossed the finish line on second position. The first place finish
in the third race was enough for Fracassoli to claim the title.
His compatriot and tournament contender, Alberto Bolzan of Yacht club cortina d'ampezzo Saetta managed to finish in the number two spot with 39 points. Bolzan compiled two bullets and a 21st finish in the final three races of the event to hit
the second podium place.
