Carlo Fracassoli on ITA 803 Gullisara leads at 2011 Boklunder Melges 24 European Championship
Italy’s Carlo Fracassoli sailed tremendously on his ITA 803 Gullisara to grab the overall lead with 17 points in the regatta on Day 3 of Boklunder Melges 24 European Championship in Aarhus, Denmark.
His compatriot Alberto Bolzan on ITA 716 Saetta finished second in the standings while Tonu Toniste of Estonia topped the Corinthian division with seven points.
The races started a bit late, as the cloudy weather created windless conditions, which halted the event for a couple of hours and all 80 teams from around the world were put on a hold. The skies cleared
after two hours and a solid five to six knots breeze started blowing across the racing area. The 80-team fleet took charge and started the battle on Aarhus waters.
The championship leader, Fracassoli started tremendously with a third and an eight, to book the top spot with 17 points. A thirteen and a sixth position in the day’s races brought Bolzan on second
place at the end of the day. Italian Andrea Racchelli, on Altea, grabbed the third place overall in the standings on Day 3 with 40 points, only one point down to Bolzan.
Meanwhile, Lenny crew of Tonu Toniste retained their top spot in the Corinthian division with an impressive seven points followed by Tiit Vihul on Rock City in second place with 22 points. With a
margin of just one point behind Vihul is Oyvind Peder Jahre in third, with 23 points.
