Carlos Almeida clinches Men’s 200m IM gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Carlos Almeida of CARD-KY clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Thursday, July 12.
The 23-year-old Almeida stifled hopes of his opponents in the four-lap IM discipline and proved his mettle for the gold spot.
He displayed his gruelling efforts in the 200m discipline and earned his way to the top of medal rostrum for gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 05.80 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Sam Lewis of DYNA-GA, who stayed almost three body lengths behind and finished second in the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.46 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Mark Sarman of Yellow Jacket-GA, who remained prominent for third position of the discipline and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 08.85 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Zachar Lierley of MPSC-SC, who stayed 1.27 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.12 seconds.
The 17-year-old Lierley enjoyed an advantage of 0.65 seconds over Michael Hurdle of Silver Bullet EL, who secured fifth position of the 200m race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 10.77 seconds.
Subsequently, Hurdle was chased by Robert Doles of DYNA-GA, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and secured sixth finest spot of the race by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 10.95 seconds.
Doles was chased by Nichol Salyers of SA-GA, who stayed one body length away from upsetting his former finisher and ended his sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 11.87 seconds for seventh position.
Last position of the discipline was secured by Connor Herman of DYNA-GA, who failed to impress his fans. The 18-year-old Herman remained 1.06 seconds away from his former finisher and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.93 seconds for eighth position.
Almeida was overjoyed with his commendable pace while the championship will come to an end after the completion of all races on July 15.
