Carlos Baldomir roots for Lucas Matthysse in upcoming bout
Former welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir had some advice for fellow Argentine Lucas Matthysse (27-0, 25 KOs) in light of his upcoming NABO junior welterweight and IBF No.2 elimination bout with Zab Judah on November 6.
Baldomir’s words come with the experience of having beaten Judah himself in 2006 in a unanimous decision. He said: “Lucas is stronger than me and has the power to hurt Zab at any point during the fight. I think he will eventually knock him out if he takes
control of the fight from the first round. He has the power and heart to be victorious on November 6."
Judah and Matthysse will meet at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The bout will offer Judah, once a top-rated welterweight, the opportunity to reestablish himself in the boxing world.
Matthysse, 27, has been busy training in Oxnard, California, the site at which Antonio Margarito is currently installed preparing for his November 13 showdown with Manny Pacquiao. Matthysse has been sparring with formidable opponents like Sergio “Maravilla”
Martinez, the WBC middleweight champion, to whip him up into proper shape for the cagey Judah.
Matthysse recently stated his purpose: “I'm coming to win. I'm very motivated for this fight and have worked extremely hard in camp. I want to bring the victory and belt back to my country."
Luis Dionicio Barrera, Matthysse’s trainer, added: “Lucas is looking tremendous and working with a lot of passion and dedication. He knows this is a great opportunity to fight a former World Champion and he's ready to put everything on the table. He's
in great spirits and ready for November 6."
Matthysse is represented by Golden Boy Promotions, who will be promoting the event. It will also be co-promoted by Main Events, affiliated with Judah, and his own promotion company, Super Judah Promotions.
