Carlos Barredo brings an end to his professional career
Carlos Barredo has decided to throw in the towel on his professional career after his name came up for biological programme violations and the cyclist do not intend to return back the sport.
“I will not return to the bicycle. On Wednesday I start my new job,” for a coffee-making company, he told El Pais.
He earlier suspended by his side, Team Rabobank and his contract with the Danish side expires by the end of 2012.
Problems started for Barredo when his name came up at the UCI’s ‘suspicious list’ and was given a top 10 ranking.
The UCI ‘suspicious list’ includes the name of all the cyclists that were believed to have doped during the Tour de France 2010. The list had some of the top names including the one of Alberto Contador at fifth spot, who was later given a two-year ban.
"He got the opportunity to provide answers and to defend himself," explained Rabobank in a statement earlier in August.
"He was required to send the answers in before the 24th of July. Barredo formulated the answers in close cooperation with Rabobank Cycling Team and sent them in before the required date”.
"Those questions were informative, there is no procedure".
"Rabobank Cycling Team rallies behind the blood passport and a clean sport. We will follow all the necessary steps as we have done so far,” the statement continuous.
The USADA’s in depth investigation into Lance Armstrong has changed the equation for Team Rabobank as its main sponsor Rabobank decided to end its associations with the sport.
Several cyclists confessed doping and were suspended from the sports along with disqualification from the previous victories.
Dutch bank, Rabobank decided to break its16 year old bonding with the World Tour side as it never wanted to get its name involved with doping.
The World Tour side will start the new season under the name Blanco Pro Cycling and Rabobank will continue backing the side until the 2013 season and team must find a full backer by the end of the season in order to continue operating at the top level of
the sport.
