Carlos Beltran looks for a new start with St. Louis Cardinals – MLB News
Although the St. Louis Cardinals have recently signed Carlos Beltran to a two-year contract, the past continues to haunt the player. He is now the team-mate of Adam Wainwright, the pitcher who struck him out in one of the unforgettable moments of his career.
Facing Wainwright in the crucially important game of the National League Championship Series, Carlos Beltran could not execute the ball, bringing an end to the hopes of the New York Mets to win the NLCS.
That day and the inning still occupy a prominent place in the memory of both the New York Mets and the fans. However, the most intriguing aspect of the entire episode is that now Carlos Beltran being is on the same team as Wainwright.
Beltran, however, does not want to remain steeped in the same thought his entire career. What he rather keeps on high ground right now is the chance of being with a strong team. The Cardinals, after all, are the current Champions.
Moving ahead, he says that the years have passed since the incident and he now wants to go past that moment.
"It's already been six years. If they want to continue to think about that moment, that's their problem. But I turned that page. I really moved on. I just feel that being with the Cardinals this year, it was a good fit for me."
With a deal of $26 million for two years, Carlos Beltran might have struck a less profitable and rewarding contract compared to $119 million deal he had with the Mets a few years ago. Nonetheless, it still seems good enough for the player.
Although the events of the past linger, he wants to remember them as something good while representing the New York Mets.
"The way they think of me, that's how they feel, so there's nothing I can do about it," Beltran said. "I just have to say that, in my time here, I really enjoyed playing for the Mets.”
Carlos Beltran has a tremendous opportunity to provide some added strength to the Cardinals as the team is already in a dominating position for the upcoming 2012 MLB season.
