Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran making his case for a Major League Baseball start this year
It’s now confirmed that Carlos Beltran will be in the mix for a Grapefruit League game on Tuesday, but it leaves the question for his Opening Day feature, open. The right-fielder is set to take on the competition in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and many believe
he will be looking to get most of his work done on the day as he will be pushed into featuring for the New York Mets on Friday.
The Major League Baseball season is poised to start on the 31st of March and the club is trying its best to walk out of Spring Training with their top player in premier shape. Beltran holds the players together and manager Terry Collins wants
him to be set for the coming contest. With only some experience in Spring Training, Beltran will be heading to the batter’s box under a different designation. The player played as a designated hitter, three weeks ago and that will change today.
The hard task now is to determine whether Beltran will be able to make it to playing team in the first game against the Florida Marlins.
“It's what we've been talking about since we arrived in this camp, that we have a good club and we need him in the line up,” manager Terry Collins said. “He's been working very, very hard.”
At first, there were various doubts about the outfielder making it to the squad. There were plans to ship him off to the minor leagues in a bid to repair him, but it was thought better to put him in the Grapefruit League game encounter. The only risk involved
with Beltran is aggravating his knee repair. If there are concerns over the situation, Beltran will have to start on the 15 – day disabled list.
“It's unfortunate that he got the tendinitis that he did,” Collins said. “It was very unfortunate that he had that, but we dealt with it. He's still gotten himself ready.”
The Mets want their best hitters in the line-up and the right fielder is trying to make it to the top.
