Carlos Beltran’s six RBIs helps New York Mets defeat Colorado Rockies 9-5 – MLB Update
New York Mets’ out-fielder, Carlos Beltran had a notable day with the bat as he hit six RBIs and went 3-for-5 in the Mets’ 9-5 victory against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Colorado on May 12.
It was an unforgettable day for Beltran as he outclassed the Rockies with his amazing batting performance. He was very satisfied with his hitting throughout the game. Beltran expressed his excitement as, “I never smile a lot, but I was smiling. It's going
to be a day I'll never forget.”
The game was delayed for two hours due to rain but then continued until the end. In the first inning, Beltran hit a one-run homer towards the deep centre-field position and Willie Harris walked to reach first base. On the other side, Jonathan Herrera struck
his second homer of the season. The Mets were leading 2-1 at the end of first inning. The second and third inning went scoreless for both sides.
The Mets scored three runs in the fourth inning when Harris completed a two-run double off the left-field area in contribution with the walk of Jason Bay. Todd Helton went 1-for-3 and hit a one-run homer during the fourth inning but the Mets led off 5-2.
Speaking to reporters, Helton said, “We deserved to fall out of first place today with the way we played. Hopefully, it will be a wake-up call for us and we'll turn it around soon.”
The next two innings remained empty and the score-board was unmoved. In the seventh inning, Beltran hit his second home-run of the game while Daniel Murphy walked to complete his single run. The Rockies added three runs during the inning as Alfredo Amezaga
hit a run-scoring liner off the middle-field spot and Seth Smith hit two RBI singles to cut their deficit 7-5.
The Mets extended their lead to 9-5 in the ninth inning when Beltran struck his third home-run of the game and Justin Turner singled on a walk at third base. The Rockies’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez was shaky with his throws as he allowed five runs on just three
hits in three innings pitched. He struck out only three batters and gave away six walks with one home-run.
