Carlos Berlocq ousts Facundo Bagnis in quarterfinal – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
Two Argentinean players battled for the semi-final spot in Montevideo. Carlos Berlocq and Facundo Bagnis played the quarterfinal of the men’s singles competition at the 2011 Uruguay Open, which Berlocq won 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-0. Both
players showed decency in pace but it was Berlocq who prevailed as the winner in the end.  
The opening set of the match saw both players remain at the offensive with their service games and both were able to break each other’s serves with force. Berlocq could not deliver any ace and did not concede any breakpoint either.
He had a higher first serve winning rate against Bagnis. Berlocq had a 73% first serve winning ratio while Bagnis could secure a winning rate of 65% rate. Bagnis delivered two aces and conceded double faults thrice in the set.
Both players remained toe-to-toe with their service games and maintained their dominance. Berlocq won 70% of his points from the first serve and increased his game when he won 73% points from his second. Bagnis was able to win
74% points from his first serve but he faced a reduction in points from his second serve, when he could only win 37% points.
Ranked at the world number 61stspot, Berlocq could save two breakpoints from his three chances while Bagnis was able to save seven breakpoints out of the eight he faced in the set.  With an equally balanced scoring rate,
neither of the two players let anyone take a wide lead. With both Argentineans winning six games each, the set entered into a tiebreaker.  Berlocq won the first set 7-6(4).
As the second set progressed, Bagnis was in search for a win to make his hopes for the semi final alive. Neither of the two players delivered an ace nor did they concede any breakpoint. Their service win ratios also remained equal
as both players had a first serve winning rate of 71%. Bagnis won 75% points from his first serve but performed poorly with his second serve as he could only win 30% points. On the other hand, Bagniz won 71% points from his first serve and was near flawless
when he won 100% points from his second serve. The right-handed Berlocq, could only save one of the two breakpoints he faced while the left-handed Bagnis showed some offensive style when he saved all four of his breakpoints. Bagnis succeeded in staying in
the match by winning the second set 6-4.
With the match entering into the third set, the players started feeling the pressure, as the winner would make into the semi finals. 28-year old Berlocq did not score any ace and remained safe for not conceding any double fault.
He had a 72% first serve winning rate, which helped him retain an early lead. The 21-year old Bagnis could not deliver any ace and conceded a double fault once. He had a 50% first serve winning rate.
In the second serve, Berlocq won all five of his points, which propelled him in a dominating stance, helping him to win his games as Bagnis could win none. Left-handed Bagnis, on the other hand, could only win 10% points of his
second serve, which made him loose every opportunity to come in the lead. Berlocq’s serves were able to keep Bagnis from breaking them. Bagnis could not win any game as Berlocq won the third set 6-0 and cruised into the semi finals of the 2011 Uruguay Open.
