Carlos Berlocq passes by Alessio Di Mauro into quarterfinal – Palermo Challenger 2011
Second seeded Carlos Berlocq from Argentina sailed pass Alessio Di Mauro into quarterfinal round of Palermo Challenger on 5th October in Italy. Berlocq had no problem whatsoever against Mauro and easily speeded into
the quarters with a 6-2 and 6-2 straight set triumph. Berlocq dominated the show and finished the game in one and a half hour. He is the most favourite to win the tournament as top seed Rui Machado faced a second round exit at the hands of the local hero,
Gianluca Naso, yesterday.
Both these players have a 5-2 head-to-head score before the start of the match and were looking forward to enhance their tally against each other. Berlocq was the clear cut favourite in the match. Local boy Mauro had some support
from fans who wanted to see the Italian proceed to the next round but that was not good enough to overcome the world class talent of Berlocq.
Argentine dominated the first set from the word go and didn’t look back. He was enjoying the time at the pitch that allowed him to display his strengths and allowed him to utilize his favorite shots time and again. One ace and
four break points were good enough for the Argentine to seal the set in comprehensive style. He won 33 out of 59 points that is 59% winning ratio which is massive for any tennis match.
Second set was the replica of the first set. Same score line and similar display from both players just left the crowd wondering as to whether they are watching the match live or the highlights of the first set. Viewers were disappointed
at the confound display by the mediocre performance by the local contender. They wanted him to put some more effort into the match to make it a little bit interesting but it was not his fault as second seeded star was expected to dominate the match and steal
the show with his outrageous display of sporting skills.
Berlocq’s had an impressive record in the last ten matches he played conquering right of his last ten opponents whilst Mauro had a pathetic run with just four wins in last ten matches. Berlocq started the match at high note and
with a positive instinct whereas Mauro’s morale was low and therefore he couldn’t make any kind of impact at all. Berlocq is on a dream run and Antonio Veic will have to put up a sparkling show to upset the second seed and move into the semis.
