Carlos Boozer, Derrick Rose inspire Chicago Bulls to a 92 – 68 romp against Detroit Pistons: NBA
A night after being stumped by the Atlanta Hawks, the Chicago Bulls recorded an emphatic victory over the Detroit Pistons at the United Center. The Bulls were rampant against a hapless Detroit side and ran out winners with a huge 92 – 68 margin.
Bulls’ power forward Carlos Boozer was the leading scorer on the night with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Derrick Rose shone as well, notching up 22 points to go along with 8 assists while Ronnie Brewer, who started at the shooting guard position in the absence of Richard Hamilton (coach’s decision), scored 12 points and had 4 assists.
None of the Pistons players was able to inspire with their play on the court. The best of the lot though was undoubtedly Greg Monroe. The young and talented centre secured a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Tayshaun Prince (11), guard Ben Gordon (11) and rookie Brandon Knight (13) were the other players in double figures for Detroit.
The Bulls were always favourites to win the game and started off with a bang, going up 21 – 12 in the first quarter. At that point, it looked like they would run away with the game early, but the Pistons made a spirited come back, scoring 9 without a reply to end the quarter at 21 – 21.
Chicago though were not to be denied in front of their home crowd and started the second period with a furious 9 – 0 rally. The Pistons tried to mount a comeback again but were denied by a staunch Chicago defence and the first half ended 43 – 34 to Chicago.
Bulls were once again on the front foot after the break but Pistons were equal to them in the 3rd period. They were however not able to claw down the deficit, which remained 9 points when the quarter ended at 68 – 59.
The imperious Bulls never gave Detroit any chance to have a say in the final segment. They went on an incredible 18 – 3 run and the Pistons could just be helpless spectators. By the time it ended, Detroit just wanted the game to finish so they could get out of the arena.
Brandon Knight scored the last points of the game to bring the score to 92 – 68.
