Carlos Boozer confident Chicago Bulls will learn from failure – NBA Update
Chicago Bulls star Carlos Boozer is ready for the new NBA season to begin and believes he and his team must learn from their mistakes if they are to succeed.
Chicago had a terrific season in 2010-2011 but fell to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Bulls had a new setup last year; with head coach Tom Thibodeau coming in from the Boston Celtics and Carlos himself signing for the side in summer. Tom morphed the side into a devastatingly effective combat unit, led by the
indomitable super star Derrick Rose and the Bulls finished the regular season with the best record in the land.
The high stakes playoffs games though were a new experience for Chicago and after fighting their way through the first two rounds, they failed to overcome the super stars of Miami in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Boozer doesn’t have fond memories from that series, but he believes it must be kept in mind if Chicago are to do better this time around.
"That's last year," he said in an interview with ESPN. "If you could go back in a time machine and go back and play it again then, yeah, but you can't. You've got to remember, we've grown, they've grown too, I'm sure from their
losses and the experiences they've had. That's history. All we can do now is take what we've learned from that series and take what we've learned in the playoffs in general, and use the criticism to grow. Use the failure to grow."
That series was won by Miami 4 games to 1, but that score line doesn’t reflect the competitiveness of the series. All the games were pretty close right to the end, where Miami’s dominance showed. Boozer believes that although his
team lost the series, he has every confidence in the Chicago players to fight back and overturn Miami if they meet again in a similar situation.
"We were in every game, and we lost them," he said. "But with the group that we had we were in every game and had chances to win those games. Do I believe we can beat them with the group [we have]? Yeah, I do."
Boozer himself was a letdown for the Bulls during the entire playoffs. He had averaged around 17 points in the regular season and was Chicago’s most potent offensive weapon after Derrick Rose. His numbers though fell to around
12 points a game in the playoffs, leaving Chicago worryingly shot of ammunition at the offensive end.
Many believe that Boozer’s weak performances were a major reason for Chicago’s demise and for the Bulls to launch a sustainable title bid this time; Carlos will have to step up his game.
