Carlos Boozer of the Chicago Bulls gives injury update
NBA power forward Carlos Boozer, who signed a five-year deal with the Chicago Bulls this past summer, has given everybody an update on his hand injury.
Boozer, expected to be a vital piece for this year’s Bulls, broke a bone in his right hand after tripping over a bag at his house on Saturday 2 October.
"I get the cast off next Tuesday," Boozer said today. "And then they have to take the pins out. They'll put like a soft cast on for a few days, and then I'll start my rehab and I'll be
back out there."
While Boozer didn’t want to give a firm return date, the Bulls had said earlier they don’t expect their starting power forward back until January. Boozer, who spent the past six seasons
with the Utah Jazz, doesn’t look forward to being sidelined, but will do whatever he can to support his squad. He plans to travel with the team and play cheerleader.
"It's going to be tough to have to watch [Wednesday night]," he said. "Not to be able to be out there celebrating with my team mates as they play against Oklahoma. But like I said, I'll
be out there cheering my team mates on, being a good assistant coach and a good team mate and a good cheerleader. But it's going to be very tough not to be able to put my jersey on."
The 28-year-old player out of Duke was a second-round pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2002 NBA Draft. The 6ft 9in forward joined the Utah Jazz after two seasons with the Cavaliers.
The two-time NBA All-Star was a member of the gold-medal winning American team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Injuries have been an issue in the past for Boozer, who played only 37 games in the 2008-09 season and 33 in the 2005-06 campaign.
He has career averages of 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds.
