Carlos Boozer to represent Chicago Bulls in NBPA’s meeting - NBA Lockout News
When the players association had a meeting last time on Tuesday, Chicago Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer missed the session.
However, this time, and the 29-year-old Boozer will represent Bulls to make a crucial decision which will decide the future of the league. The union is having a meeting in New York this Monday to take a vote on whether to accept
the proposed offer from the NBA Commissioner David Stern.
After the negotiation process between the NBA owners and NBPA ended on Thursday, David Stern gave the union a revised deal, putting the ball in player’s court.
The NBA commissioner Stern also vowed that a 72-game season will be possible, starting from 15th December, if the players accept the NBA proposal. However, he also warned that should the players refuse to accept the
offer, there will be no more negotiations.
"We came out of [Thursday] with a proposal as far as the owners could possibly reach to the players, that provides a 72-game season starting on Dec. 15. I'm very, very hopeful that the players and the union will say, 'Yes, let's
have a season and let's begin it on Dec. 15.” Stern said.
The Deputy Commissioner of the league Adam Silver also illustrated the latest proposal as “the best they can do” and hoped that the players will accept the offer to take the action back on the NBA courts.
On the other hand, while the players association has reportedly compromised on the 50-50 split of the Basketball Related Income (BRI), the union is still not happy with the way other issues like luxury tax and mid-level exception
are proposed in the deal. Under these circumstances, the possibility that players union will reject the offer cannot be overlooked.
The decision is now in the hands of the players, David Stern has clearly stated that the latest proposal is fair and if the union does not agree on the terms, the league will get back to a an offer which will be in the favour of
the NBA owners.
"If it's not accepted, then we'll be substituting the proposal that the union knows about when the clock starts again, and it's going to be very far from where this proposal is. ... It's all in the hands of the players." Stern
said.
