Carlos Carrasco helps Cleveland Indians brush aside Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 – MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians overcame the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 at the Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday, June 29.
The Indians conquered the Chase Field in the all-important series decider. Their hitters made the flow of runs regular and their pitchers, led by Carlos Carrasco, were all over the Diamondbacks.
The Carrasco show was gripping. It not only silenced the Arizonian bull-pen, but the near capacity crowd at the facility as well. He pitched in seven innings for a total of 106 pitches. Carrasco pitched at an imposing ERA of 3.54, yielding 69 strikes and
seven strike-outs. He went for two runs, both home-runs of relatively poor pitches. Carrasco is fast improving in his still-young career and his eighth win of the season, with career wins at ten, is a commendable proof of it.
The Indians were quick to make a mark on the scoring sheet, scoring in the first inning of the game, helped by Orlando Cabrera. Orlando had a brilliant game, hitting four times and gathering two runs.
Resolute on settling for nothing less than a win, the Indians displayed quality teamwork. Jack Hannahan and Michael Brantley added one run each in the second inning with Shelley Duncan adding fourth run of the inning to take the scoring at 4-0 at the end
of third inning.
With a solid lead in hand and pressure on the home team, Carrasco might have become complacent as he threw one dolly at Justin Upton. With the kind of hitting form Upton is in and a slugging percentage of .518 to justify it, the only thing that could have
been expected was a homer and it rightly turned out to be one. Upton unleashed a mammoth 438-feet hit and ran in joy as he saw the ball sail out of the park. This was his 13th home-run this season.
The scoring came to a halt for the Indians but Carrasco continued with his near-perfect pitching. The only other time a run came against him and the Indians was when Stephen Drew skilfully crafted a hit off Carrasco. The hit came in big and ended 368-feet,
allowing Drew to add one more to his home-run tally.
The Diamondbacks could not really create momentum to hit a scoring spree. The efforts by Upton and Drew ended up as efforts only.
Cabrera came back strong in the eighth inning to score his second run of the game. The Diamondbacks failed to capitalise on their chance of scoring when the Indians were silent. The Indians finished the game in style with Lou Marson scoring in the ninth
inning, to take the total to 6-2.
The Indians, playing on the road, regrouped well after losing the second game of the series to win the third game and the series 2-1.
