Carlos Carrasco’s pitching helps Cleveland Indians overpower Minnesota Twins 1-0 – MLB Update
Cleveland Indians’ starter, Carlos Carrasco had a remarkable day as he pitched over eight score-less innings with an ERA of 4.52 in the Indians’ 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field, Cleveland on June 7.
During the first three innings, the batters failed to score any run as the hurlers threw outstanding pitches. At the top of the third inning, Brian Dinkelman was grounded out to first base and Rene Rivera grounded out to third base as they were unable to
hit proper shots.
On the other hand, Michael Brantley was struck-out looking while the Indians’ short-stop Asdrubal Cabrera popped out towards first base. Grady Sizemore was struck-out swinging at the end of third inning. The Twins were score-less in the fourth inning, as
the Indians opened their scoring account during the fourth by posting one run on the score-board and got a 1-0 lead.
Shelley Duncan was grounded out to short-stop position and Carlos Santana scored the first and final run of the game. Orlando Cabrera was unable to add a run for the Indians as he flied out to left-field. Cabrera commented on Carrasco’s performance and said,
“Awesome, man. Carlos was really good, so was the defence and we got a win.”
No score was contributed from any batter in the last five innings of the game as the pitchers threw fastballs mixed up with the curveballs and restricted the batters’ scoring shots. Carrasco did not allow a score on three hits and struck-out six batters.
He permitted just one walk on his 104 pitches.
The Indians’ manager, Manny Acta was excited after watching the pitches of Carrasco. During the press conference, he said, “Shame on me if I let the kid lose the ballgame after the way he pitched. I wanted to give him a chance for the complete game, but
he had to go 1-2-3 (in the ninth). You have a closer for a reason.”
Lou Marson had one walk but he did not score any run for his team. He also praised Carrasco in his statement as he said, “That's as good as I've seen him at the big league level. It was a great performance by Carlos. He's going to be really, really good
one day.”
On the other side, Francisco Liriano was little bit shaky as he threw five innings with an ERA of 5.20 and gave only one run on three hits. He was able to strike-out seven batters and permitted three walks on his 81 pitches.
The relievers did pretty well for the Twins as they controlled the runs by pitching in perfect line. They pitched a combined three innings for their team.
