Carlos Checa of Althea Racing team scores double win at Silverstone – WSBK news
Althea Racing team rider Carlos Checa bagged a double win at the ninth World Superbike Championship event which took place at the Silverstone circuit on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
The Spanish rider raced to mark the 301st win for Ducati and a 100th win in his career.
Checa said, “It was a wonderful day. I didn't believe that it would be possible to win here, but we managed to do it twice over! To achieve the 300th win for Ducati is an important result and we are all very happy to have been able to repeat this in race
two.”
The Spaniard was grateful to his team, Ducati and the sponsors who support the operations. Before the race at Silverstone, Checa stated that the Ducati 1098R bike might have a problem with long straights at the circuit as compared to its other rivals.
However, the bike seemed to have no problem while competing in the race. Instead of losing positions in the race, Checa won the dual event race day. The Spanish rider was able to make passes over his rivals and finally he came victorious.
Checa added, “I also heard that I have now completed 100 SBK races. I didn't know this but the important thing is that I still feel young and am not yet 100 years old! We have a good advantage for now but as we all know, it is hard to build up points and
easy to lose them.”
After the success in the Silverstone event, the Spanish rider has strengthened his WSBK championship lead with 62 points as compared to a previous 30-point difference.
The Althea Racing team will now head to Nurburgring, Germany where Checa has secured good results in the past.
The Althea team is looking forward to steadily improve its performance in the race. Checa and his team claimed that the British race weekend was a good one with a milestone success for the team and rider. Let’s see how they fare in the upcoming event in
Germany.
