Carlos Condit feels pressure-free fighting Georges St-Pierre in Montreal – UFC News
Interim welterweight titlist Carlos Condit is not afraid of facing Georges St-Pierre in Montreal, which is GSP’s hometown. According to Condit, he has nothing to lose since GSP will be in front of his face and he will be in a position to prove himself in
his comeback bout.
Georges St-Pierre, the current welterweight titlist, will take on Condit on November 17, this Saturday, at UFC 154. It will be GSP’s comeback bout after almost 19 months of retirement due to recurring injuries. While GSP is the favourite for the match, Condit
believes the expectations with the Montreal based fighter can turn into pressure on the big day.
“I have nothing to lose. He's out there, he's got his friends, his family, everybody's watching, he's in his hometown, I feel like all the pressures on him,” said Condit during his interview with MMA Weekly. “I can just go out there and shine. It's a very
familiar role. I've found myself in this position time and time again throughout my career, and I really think that I thrive as the underdog, I don't have a lot to lose, I don't feel a lot of pressure.”
Georges St-Pierre has already revealed that he is training with fellow fighter Dan Hardy for the showdown. According to Condit, it is a great move by GSP to bring Condit in his training camp.
“I can go out there and just have fun, do what I came to do, which is fight,” added Condit.
The event has already garnered enough attention from fans to be a success. Not only GSP’s return, but also middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s presence in the arena has marked the event’s success.
GSP is considered among the most elite mixed martial arts specialists in the world. According to President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White, GSP is the second best fighter under UFC’s banner, while the number one fighter is Anderson Silva.
White is looking forward to bring both the fighters together for a super-fight, in hopes of taking UFC to the next level. Should GSP defeat Condit, he would get the chance to face the number one fighter to cement his legacy.
