Carlos Condit’s victory over Nick Diaz becomes controversial – UFC news
Carlos Condit, the American mixed martial artist, defeated the Mexican mixed martial artist Nick Diaz through a unanimous decision to win the vacant UFC Welterweight Championship on Saturday night at UFC 143 in Las Vegas.
As of now, the decision is being deemed as a controversial one by Diaz’s side and for reasons that are not completely deniable.
Since it was a pretty close match, with Diaz looking like the more dominating force, it was unbelievable for Diaz as well as his fans to accept the fact that Condit was the better man. So, like most of such boxing matches, the decision soon found itself
being dumped as a controversial one.
During the fight, Diaz looked in form and so did Condit. The fight was close but no one expected Condit to be the winner since most of the time he was trying to either run away or defend himself. However, to most, this appeared to be Condit’s major game
plan. Knowing that Diaz is a power-striker, Condit kept a distance from him trying to make him frustrated.
To a certain extent, Condit did succeed as we saw Diaz in fury, trying to provoke Condit with his screams and taunts. Nothing worked on Condit and he kept his cool which finally led him to victory.
In the initially two rounds, things seemed like they were going in Diaz’s favour. However, in the third and fourth round Condit made a comeback and delivered some head-shaking and face-busting kicks and punches to the Mexican.
The fifth round again was taken away by Diaz especially when he grappled Condit in the last few minutes. Unfortunately, he was unable to execute the submission and the fight concluded. After the fight, the vacant welterweight title was awarded to Condit
by president of UFC Dana White.
This was the moment where controversies stirred up as an irked Diaz told Roe Joe Rogan, commentator of UFC, “I'm not going to accept the fact that this was a loss. He ran this whole fight.”
Some seconds later Diaz, who was feeling embarrassed and cheated, moved forward to say that his time with MMA is done and that he no longer wishes to be a part of it. This was taken as a threatening statement by many around the world whereas Diaz said that
it’s not a threat but what he wants to do.
