Carlos Corporan sparks as Houston Astros defeat Washington Nationals 9-3 – MLB Update
Houston Astros’ catcher, Carlos Corporan had a tremendous day with the bat as he struck three RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .196 in the Astros’ 9-3 victory against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park, Washington on September 10.
During first two innings, the batters struggled and failed to exhibit their skills. Jason Bourgeois and J.D. Martinez both ground out to first base while Jordan Schafer struck-out without taking runs in the first inning. Similarly, at the bottom of second
inning, Jonny Gomes singled off left-field but Michael Morse and Chris Marrero both struck-out swinging while Danny Espinosa ground out without adding any run.
Astros’ batters stepped on the gas during third inning and smashed six quick runs to get a 6-0 lead. Bourgeois singled towards left-field and Schafer scored the first run for Astros. The second run was taken by Bourgeois when Carlos Lee hit a single-run
drive towards centre-field and Martinez occupied third base.
Chris Johnson singled off left-field and Martinez scored the third run for Astros. Jose Altuve hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to third base while Lee and Johnson scored two collective runs on the throwing error of Nationals’ pitcher, John Lannan. The
last run during the third inning was taken by Angel Sanchez when Corporan reached towards second base on an infield single and Altuve advanced to second base to end the third inning.
On the other hand, Nationals got off the mark by adding two runs in the fourth inning and reduced their lead 6-2. Ryan Zimmerman and Morse both scored two runs jointly when Marrero hit a single-run drive towards centre-field. At the top of fifth inning,
Astros scored two runs to raise their lead 8-2.
Corporan hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field and Sanchez scored a single run. The second run was taken by Altuve when Wandy Rodriguez doubled to deep right-field. Morse struck a solo home-run towards right-field to cut the Nationals’ deficit 8-3 at the bottom
of sixth inning. Astros got a 9-3 lead in the ninth inning when Corporan hit a single-run shot to shallow right-field and Johnson posted the last run.
Rodriguez pitched six innings and gave up three runs, seven hits and one home-run with an ERA of 3.51. With that comfortable victory, Astros tied the three-game series 1-1 against the Nationals at Washington.
