Carlos Delgado will be rewarded Toronto Blue Jays Level of Excellence – MLB Update
Former Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Carlos Delgado will be awarded with club’s Level of Excellence to honour for his great efforts and good commitment with the team. He played in the Blue Jays from 1993 to 2004 and remained one of the most consistent
players of franchise’s history.
He almost played over ten seasons with the Blue Jays and earned great appreciation. His award ceremony will be held in next Major League Baseball season on July 21 when the Blue Jays will play against the Tampa Bay Rays.
“Not only was he one of the best hitters in club history, he was one of the finest first basemen of his generation, More importantly, Carlos was a tremendous ambassador for the Blue Jays organization and the city of Toronto. His fun-loving attitude was infectious,”
team president Paul Beeston said Friday in a release.
Later Delgado said on a conference call and explained about the award with great jubilation, “I always said that I wanted to play the game the right way, I wanted to represent myself and my team in a very professional manner and I tried to do that. This
is a tremendous honour, When I became a Blue Jay I never thought an honour of this nature would be possible.”
With this potential award next year, the former Major League Baseball professional Delgado will become the 10th man in the Blue Jays history to be nominated in Level of Excellence class. Becoming the Blue Jays member in 1993, Delgado started playing
a key role since then and always showed his best abilities.
Delgado continued his great run with the Blue Jays and earned huge appreciation from many baseball experts. He later achieved several individual honours and become the Blue Jays’ leading player in several categories. He hit 336 home runs along 1058 RBIs
and 827 walks for the Blue Jays and achieved excellence on his .556 slugging percentage as well. Though almost in every season, he achieved good numbers but in 2003 he certainly went with great numbers hitting at .302 with 145 RBIs and 42 home runs.
