Carlos Eduardo dreams of Barcelona move
Rubin Kazan midfielder Carlos Eduardo has spoken of his wish to one day earn a move to La Liga giants Barcelona.
The Russian champions take on the Spanish side in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. The teams met at the same stage of the competition last season and Kazan stunned Pep Guardiola’s
men by winning both of the sides’ matches.
Eduardo is hoping for a similar result this time around, but will also be hoping to impress the Barca hierarchy in a bid to win a move to the Camp Nou.
The Brazilian attacker told Spanish website Sport.es that: "(Moving to Barcelona is) my goal, especially given the historical relationship between Barcelona and Brazil. Rivaldo, Romario and Ronaldinho
have shown that Barca have a style that suits Brazilians. Just to look at their facilities you realise how big the club is."
Kazan will be bidding to make up for a loss in their opening group stage match to Danish champions Copenhagen, while Barcelona top the standings on goal difference after thumping Greek champions Panathinaikos
5-1.
Moved for Champions League football
Meanwhile, Eduardo spoke of the reasons why he decided to move to the Russian club from German side Hoffenheim, saying that the lack of European competition was a major factor. The 23-year-old Brazil international
made the switch over the summer for a fee of 20 million euros.
He said that: “In Germany I didn't play in the Champions League and it is an important competition for me. I did not think twice about making the move, it was a very important step for me."
Though Kazan have won the Russian title for the last two years and are currently second top of the league standings, Eduardo conceded that his side have a lot of work to do if they are to emulate last
season’s results against the Spanish champions.
He said that: “Barcelona are the favourites because they have earned the right to be.”
