Carlos Gonzalez had deep bone contusion after examining MRI – MLB News
Colorado Rockies’ left-fielder, Carlos Gonzalez suffered a serious wrist injury during the game at Coors Field. After MRI results, it was revealed that he had a deep bone fracture in his right hand.
The 25-year-old Gonzalez crashed into the centre-field wall and laid on the field during the game played against the Kansas City Royals on July 3, 2011. He was unable to bat accurately during the practice session and felt some pain even after few days’ treatment.
Then, he wanted to examine himself under MRI which displayed the reason of severe soreness.
Gonzalez suffered a same wrist injury during September, 2010, but it did not affect his batting average as he practiced well before the start of the Spring Training season. Only, his hitting power was lost with that injury as he had eight home-runs in last
August, but after that terrible incident, he was able to strike only five homers with a batting average of .393.
Speaking to reporters, Gonzalez said, “I feel better. I got the cortisone shot. Now I have to wait and rest for two days.”
The coaches and his team-mates all had a view that Gonzalez will return to his recent form within few days as he has stamina to face the difficulties with much ease. One of his team-mate, Troy Tulowitzki said, “Watching him take BP, and the strength he had,
I believe he's going to be fine. Obviously, we are going to need him.”
Tulowitzki discussed the All-Star game and said, “Yeah, I thought about it. If I wasn’t healthy enough, you don’t want to come here hurt and further injure yourself for your team. It means a lot to be here. The fans obviously love this game. There’s not
a better place to be right now.”
Gonzalez played in Minor League games for almost six years and got much confidence to play in big tournaments. Then, he started his MLB career with the Oakland Athletics on May 30, 2008. He played his first game against the Texas Rangers and showed his outstanding
abilities in that game to prove his position for the regular season.
At the end of 2008, Gonzalez was exchanged from the Athletics to the Colorado Rockies, on the basis of his performance. He joined the Rockies in place of Matt Holliday and spent most of the season with the batting coaches to improve his tricks. Gonzalez
gave the Rockies many wins due to his famous walk-off homers.
With the challenging efforts of Gonzalez, the Rockies’ management had decided to extend his contract. On January 11, 2011, Gonzalez inked a seven year contract with the Rockies worth $80.5-million and it becomes the largest agreement in MLB history.
