Carlos Gonzalez helps Colorado Rockies defeat San Francisco Giants 5-3 – MLB Update
Carlos Gonzalez hit a three run homer to help Colorado Rockies defeat San Francisco Giants 5-3 at Coors Field, Denver on Tuesday, May 17.
The Colorado Rockies have managed to win against the San Francisco Giants for the second time, which means that they are the series winners against the Giants as well. Because of the loss the Giants unwillingly gave up first place in the National League
West to the Rockies by just half a game.
Carlos Gonzalez was the star of the last game where he belted out a colossal three run homer that sealed the win for the Rockies. His input in the game was valuable for the Rockies as well.
In the previous game Tim Lincecum was obviously out of his league as his pitches were off target and slippery. Pitching wise at least, the Giants improved until the eighth inning came along. Starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez pitched an outstanding game before
the eighth inning, as he was nearly flawless and miles better than Lincecum who is one of the top pitchers in Major League Baseball currently.
Where the door of opportunity was open for the entire game when Lincecum was pitching, Sanchez kept it tightly closed. In the 81 pitches that he threw he allowed a single home-run by Troy Tulowitzki without walking anyone. When the eighth inning rolled around,
disaster struck as he let two hits pass him by and committed a throwing error on which the Rockies cashed immediately.
The Giants took the early lead in the game as they were the first ones to put a run on the scoreboard. Miguel Tejada singled to right-field and Aubrey Huff scored. The next run from the Giants’ side came in the third inning as Pat Burrell doubled to deep
left centre-field off which Mike Fontenot and Buster Posey scored.
After that, the Rockies started off their hitting spree in the eighth inning that helped them win against the Giants. Ryan Spilborghs scored as Chris Iannetta moved to the third base on a throwing error by Sanchez. Dexter Fowler smacked a ground rule double
to centre-field and Iannetta score as Alfredo Amezaga moved to third base during the play. The last run of the game came as Carlos Gonzalez singled to right-field and Amezaga and Fowler scored.
It will be interesting to see how the Rockies carry their winning momentum into their next match-up. The Giants put in a decent performance, but it was not enough to contain the Rockies’ offence.
