Carlos Guillen enjoying his time after retirement – MLB News

Former Tiger Carlos Guillen is very content with his retirement decision. Speaking to the reporter on Sunday at Osceola County Stadium, he stated that he is spending quality time with his friends and family these days. Guillen announced his retirement early
this season after signing a minor league contract with Seattle Mariners. He was invited to the 2012 spring training sessions. However, after playing only a handful of games, he decided to retire from the game, making the official announcement on March, 6.
Guillen was present in the stadium to watch Detroit Tigers take on Atlanta Braves. However, the game was cancelled due to heavy rain. Answering a question, the 36 year old added that he will be taking his children to Disney World during their spring break.
"Your body tells you," Guillen said. "I worked hard in the off-season to keep playing. But it's different when you play the game every day. And it's different when it's baseball activity. It's different when you take ground balls every day."
"I was training in the off-season in Miami, and I went home and was training at my academy (in Venezuela), and it was no problem," Guillen said. "Ten days before going to spring training, I felt it a little bit running in the sand. That's when it started
bothering me again. It's not fun being every day in the training room."
Ex-Tigers’ shortstop is convinced that the Tigers have enough depth and quality in their hitting and pitching line-up to make it to the World Series this season. He is also very excited about Miguel Cabrera’s move to third base (The Tigers signed on Prince
Fielder on a nine year $214 million contract at the start of this year. Acquiring Fielder for the first base, the Tigers asked Cabrera to perform third base duties in 2012).
Carlos made the most of available opportunities in his tenure with the Tigers. Showing his composure and character on the field, he made it to the All Star team in 2004, 2007 and 2008. He will be expecting his team to make it to the playoffs with ease this
season.
