Carlos Guillen shines as Detroit Tigers edge past Chicago White Sox 6-5 - MLB Update
Detroit Tigers’ second baseman, Carlos Guillen had a brilliant day with the bat as he hit two RBIs including a single run and went 3-for-5 with an average of .226 in the Tigers’ 6-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago on September
14.
Ramon Santiago walked during the first inning but the rest of his team-mates failed to post runs as Andy Dirks flied out while Delmon Young and Victor Martinez both struck-out swinging. Similarly, White Sox short-stop Aramis Ramirez singled to shallow left-field
but Juan Pierre and Dayan Viciedo both ground out without contributing even a single run at the bottom of first inning.
During the second inning, Tigers added one run while White Sox batters smashed four runs to give their team an exemplary start in the series finale. Guillen hit a solo homer (414 feet) towards right-centre to post the first run for Tigers. On the other hand,
Alejandro De Aza and Brent Morel both scored the initial two runs for the White Sox when Ramirez drove a double-run shot to shallow right-field.
Paul Konerko hit a single-run drive to centre-field while Pierre and Ramirez both contributed two collective runs to give the White Sox a 4-1 lead at the end of second inning. The batters were unable to reveal their abilities from the third to fifth inning.
Tigers’ starter, Brad Penny pitched six innings with an ERA of 5.07 and struck-out three batters. He gave up five runs, eight hits, three walks and one earned run on his 89 pitches.
In the sixth inning, the score-board moved to 5-2 when both teams added one run to their individual score-card. Martinez singled off centre-field and Miguel Cabrera posted one run on the error of White Sox centre-fielder Alex Rios. Conversely, De Aza scored
a single run for the White Sox when Gordon Beckham doubled to left-field.
Tigers’ batters smashed three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game 5-5. Ryan Raburn homered (380 feet) to left-field and Alex Avila homered (432 feet) towards right-centre while Magglio Ordonez added a tie run. In the additional 10th inning,
Will Rhymes scored a tie-breaking run to give the Tigers a 6-5 lead when Guillen singled off centre-field.
As a result, the Tigers sailed over a three-game sweep against the White Sox after defeating them in an exciting game.
